This project for Sustainable Market Towns in North Yorkshire is supported by David Skaith, Mayor of York and North Yorkshire and funded by York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority via the Vibrant and Sustainable High Streets Fund. This regional investment programme aims to reinvigorate high streets across York and North Yorkshire, transforming them into thriving, resilient community centres that reflect local character and support long-term economic vitality.

This fund invited ambitious, innovative proposals designed to breathe new life into the region’s high streets – to celebrate local identity, and inspire renewed pride in place. Central to this model were Local Partnerships: groups of independent businesses, community organisations, and local stakeholders who work collaboratively to shape a shared vision for their high street. These partnerships are recognised as the people who best understand the challenges and opportunities within their own towns.

Through this structure, Totally Locally, along with other successful projects received targeted investment to design and implement practical, high-impact initiatives that encourage footfall, strengthen local collaboration and support long-term sustainability.

By investing in grassroots partnerships and empowering towns to shape their own future, the Mayoral fund provides the foundation for projects like Totally Locally to flourish – helping to build vibrant, confident, community-led high streets across York and North Yorkshire.
